Timeless Echoes Exhibition...
was a great success! I'm still buzzing from the energy and vibe we were able to cultivate. It truly was a satisfying collaborative event. Last month, on August 15th, 2024, my good friend @rajeeralford and I collaborated on an event that embodied both our creative expressions. I exhibited images from a photo series of historical reenactors that I captured over a four-year period, and Rajeer Alford, already a seasoned performer in acting and musical theater, performed tunes inspired not only by the portraits I featured but also by songs he loved, with a full band. Huge thanks to the talent musicians who accompanied Rajeer. It was both of our first times putting ourselves out there in this way.
When Rajeer inquired if I wanted to collaborate with him a few months before the event, I originally said no. I told him that I wanted to do my first show by myself, but after taking some time to think about it, it felt silly not to participate. When it comes to my creativity outside of paid work, it can be difficult to find the energy to create. Plagued by perfectionism, if I have an idea for something and it doesn't match the vision I have in my head, I often see no reason to pursue it. The show very much put me in a mindset of wanting to create and collaborate more. I want to make more time to push my boundaries in this way.
The biggest lesson I learned, aside from what I would do differently next time, is the importance of not getting so caught up in my perfectionism. The sheer act of hunkering down, moving through unpleasant feelings, and completing something even in the face of doubt can be very powerful and soul-affirming. It doesn't need to be perfect; I merely need to come from a place of authenticity and connection to my work and creativity.
In addition to the gratitude I feel for all those who donated and came out to support, I want to give a massive shout-out and thank you to my loving wife and life partner of over 13 years, Brittany. She played a huge role in helping to set up the space, as well as providing beverages and food. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for truly seeing me and loving me the way you do. Below, you'll find photos from the show. It truly was a vibe, and I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished.
